Pastabumą būtina skirti nuo akylumo – gebėjimo greitai suvokti daug įvairios, bet neesminės informacijos. Pastabumą lemia patirtis, intelektas, todėl jis ugdomas mokant išskirti esminius daiktų ir reiškinių požymius, lavinant mąstymą.
